When you clapped on your doorstep to say thanks to NHS workers during the Covid-19 pandemic, who were you thinking of?
An extraordinary range of working roles make their own vital contribution within the NHS workforce. This workforce has been dependent since its inception on the contribution of migrant workers and is more ethnically diverse today than it has ever been. In the organisation’s 75th anniversary year, the Untold Stories of the NHS project sought to celebrate the contribution of current and former NHS workers in many roles and from many backgrounds to the ultimate objective of delivering care. Untold Stories was led by Manchester Metropolitan University, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and delivered in partnership with Lime Arts, NHS England, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester UNESCO City of Literature.
